BUG BASH OPENS AT BUFFALO MUSEUM OF SCIENCE

New Summer Exhibit Explores “Not-so-Creepy” Crawlies

Scurry on over to the Buffalo Museum of Science (1020 Humboldt Pkwy., Buffalo) to experience Bug Bash, a new family-friendly exhibit that explores the world of “not-so-creepy” crawlies, opening July 6 and running through Sept. 1. Bug Bash offers a colorful, fun environment all about bugs, bug-inspired participatory activities and real-life insects from the museum’s extensive collections.

“I think we all associate bugs with summer,” said Carroll Ann Simon, acting president and CEO, Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences. “The museum’s primary audience in the summer months is children, either with their family, their day camp group, or other youth groups. Bug Bash is designed to appeal to young audiences with a highly visual, fun and fascinating look at the largest group of creatures on our planet.”

Bug Bash visitors will be immersed in an oversized bug habitat as soon as they enter the museum, featuring spiders, ladybugs, ants and grasshoppers.

The exhibit features “Pollination & Navigation,” where guests don antennae and bug glasses, while practicing their weaving, tunneling, crawling and climbing skills. “Bug Builders Inc.” explores bugs that build their own unique homes including wasps, ants, tent caterpillars, trap-door spiders and butterflies. Design a personal bug home design, then see how it stacks up to the real bug experts.

“Web Weaving” challenges visitors to weave their own spider web or add to the giant oversized community web. “Camouflage Collage” allows a visitor to create camouflage to help obscure an insect of choice.

The “Flea Circus” features a carnival-like atmosphere where guests can enter “Insect Olympics” contests to see if they could jump as far or as high as certain insects. There is also a medicine ball challenge to see if guests are as strong as dung beetle.

In addition, the museum’s third floor Connections gallery (for ages eight and up) features “Insectigations,” which includes a scientific look at the circle of life with real bugs feeding off animal carcasses, a 15-foot stream table habitat for bugs that walk on water, as well as a giant ant colony. Younger visitors will enjoy “bug time” activities in Camp Wee Explorers, featuring the popular books Garden Animals, Hey Little Ant, The Grouchy Ladybug, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and The Very Lonely Firefly.

In addition, a large variety of appealing bug-related merchandise will also be available for purchase in Chauncey’s, the museum’s new retail shop.

“There is no doubt that children are fascinated with bugs,” said Dr. John Grehan, director of science and collections and the museum’s resident entomologist. “Presenting this bundle of exhibits and programs is a way to nurture their curiosity and sustain their interest in biology throughout their lives.”

Museum summer hours through Labor Day are Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sundays. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children under 12, with discounts for students and seniors with identification. As always, museum members and children under three are free. For more information on these and other summer activities, call (716) 896-5200.

The Derek Trucks Band Parks in Vacant Artpark Headliner Spot!

Six-String Sensation’s Acclaimed Quintet Highlights July 3 Event in Place of Hootie & the Blowfish!

Artpark officials have confirmed that The Derek Trucks Band are the latest addition to the venue’s incredible 2007 summer schedule, and will serve as the headliner act of the “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” free outdoor concert series on July 3. Trucks, the youngest artist ever to grace Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All-Time,” and his eclectic, five-piece band fill a six-day old vacancy in Artpark’s Tuesday night lineup created when Hootie & the Blowfish were forced to cancel 13 July events due to surgery on lead singer Darius Rucker’s left knee. All of Artpark’s free concert events include hands-on art workshops for children and begin at 6:30pm.

Trucks, nephew of Allman Brothers Band member Derek “Butch” Trucks and wife of fellow guitar virtuoso Susan Tedeschi, is widely accepted as one of the greatest slide guitar players of all-time. He began playing the instrument at age nine and, before his twenty-first birthday, was tabbed to join his uncle in the Allman Brothers Band as a replacement for the late Duane Allman in 1999. Following his acceptance to join Eric Clapton on the legendary musician’s 2006-2007 world tour, Trucks now finds himself touring over 300 nights a year with three highly-recognized groups.

The Derek Trucks Band has been a work in progress for over 10 years, blending jazz, rock, blues, Latin, Eastern Indian, and other world music into the sound that now defines them. Trucks, who received his first paying gig at age 11 and formed his first band at age 12, began playing with Atlanta bassist Todd Smallie in 1994 (at age 15), which is when the current incarnation of The Derek Trucks Band began to take shape. In 1995, Yonrico Scott – more than 20 years older than Trucks – rounded out the band's permanent rhythm section, while flutist Kofi Burbridge joined four years later. Vocalist Mike Mattison came onboard later in 1999 and provided the final piece of the puzzle for the band, whose acclaimed live performances often incorporate flutes, congas and guitar-fueled “jams” to complement Mattison’s vocal prowess.

Other recent career highlights of the 29-year-old Trucks include the January release of his band’s first live concert DVD (Songlines), a February cover story in Rolling Stone (“The New Guitar Gods”), and an upcoming collaborative performance with Tedeschi at Clapton’s “Crossroads Guitar Festival.”

The Derek Trucks Band consists of Trucks (guitar), Smallie (bass/vocals), Scott (drums/percussion/vocals), Burbridge (keyboards/flute/vocals) and Mattison (lead vocals).
Artpark’s July 3 concert event with The Derek Trucks Band is sponsored by The Reid Group.
The “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” concert series is also sponsored by Certo Brothers Distributing Company, Sevenson Environmental Services, Modern Corporations, Hard Rock Café – Niagara Falls (USA), S&S Lawn Services, Tim Horton’s, Pine Pharmacy, DiMino’s Lewiston Tops and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Children’s art activities are sponsored by the New York Power Authority.

Hootie & the Blowfish made an official announcement on Monday that they would be postponing 13 upcoming concert dates – including its July 3 date at Artpark – as a result of complications that arose from a post-surgery staph infection in Rucker’s left knee. The band plans to reschedule many of the events, which means that the possibility remains open of a late-summer appearance at Artpark.

Artpark’s Outdoor Amphitheater can be accessed via the Upper Park’s Portage Road entrance off of Center Street or through South Fourth Street nearest the Mainstage Theater.

Carry-ins (food and beverages) are prohibited at all of Artpark’s free concert events while on-site parking is $6.

For more information, access the Artpark website at http://www.artpark.net/ or call the Artpark Box Office at (716) 754-4375.

THIS SUMMER’S KINGDOM BOUND’S LINE-UP TO INCLUDE TOP “MODERN WORSHIP” ARTISTS

Buffalo, N.Y. (June 24, 2007) —Tickets and accommodation packages are currently available for the 21st annual Kingdom Bound Christian music festival at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort in Darien Center, New York, halfway between Buffalo and Rochester.

Kingdom Bound 2007 will bring together some of today’s most popular contemporary Christian “modern worship” artists, including Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall, and David Crowder, for this summer’s festival, to be held August 5-8, 2007.

Modern worship music, while primarily appealing to young people, especially college-aged kids, has also made its mark at churches around the world, as millions of people sing guitar-driven songs penned by the likes of Tomlin, Hall, and Crowder at Sunday services. Modern worship music songs are like “hymns for a new generation,” according to Mark Weber, of ChristianMusicDaily.com.

“Just like past generations had their hymns such as ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘How Great Thou Art,’ today’s young people are making music to worship God with lyrics and a style well-suited for today,” says Weber. “Songs like ‘How Great Is Our God’ by Chris Tomlin or David Crowder’s ‘Here Is Our King’ have repeating, easily-sung chorus parts, which encourage the listener to take an active role, singing along, expressing their worship for God. If you took the songs of U2, arguably the world’s most popular rock band, and adjusted the lyrics so most of them were about or directed toward God, that would be a good way to describe what modern worship music sounds like.”

Kingdom Bound, one of North America’s largest and longest running events of its kind, is excited to offer a place where people can experience some of the world’s top “modern worshippers.”

“We’re really excited to be able to offer festival-goers a line-up that includes artists who write and sing songs used by countless people in Christian churches and gatherings each week,” says Donna Russo, Kingdom Bound’s Executive Director. “Kingdom Bound has built a solid reputation for bringing in top Christian artists, and Darien Lake is a unique and very enjoyable venue for these artists to showcase their talents in front of large crowds representing diverse people who traveled from near and far to come together and worship God.”

Besides Tomlin, Hall, and Crowder, Kingdom Bound will feature three evening headliners at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center stage: Casting Crowns on Monday, August 6 (country/pop), TobyMac on Tuesday, August 7 (rock/hip-hop), and Newsboys on Wednesday, August 8 (rock/pop).

Kingdom Bound 2007 event or day pass tickets are now on sale, and include admission to the majority of Darien Lake’s amusement park rides. Specially-priced “after 5pm” tickets are available for commuters. Campsite/RV/Hotel packages are also available. Call 800-461-4485 or visit www.kingdombound.org for tickets, accommodation information, or to see a current list of the more than 50 bands, singers, and speakers who will be offering concerts or seminars at Kingdom Bound 2007.

“Tuesday in the Park” Hosts Hootie & the Blowfish, School Supply Drive!

Two-time Grammy Winners’ Homegrown Tour Begins at Artpark on July 3!

(Lewiston, NY) Hootie & the Blowfish, the two-time Grammy Award winners best known for ‘90s signature tunes such as “Only Wanna Be With You,” “Hold My Hand” and “Let Her Cry,” are the headliner act of the “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” free outdoor concert series at Artpark on July 3 and, like most Artpark events, this one is not all about the music. Artpark, which provides free hands-on art activities for kids at all of its free concerts, is also the first stop on Hootie & the Blowfish’s 15-city “Homegrown Tour,” a four-year-old initiative to collect school supplies for economically-disadvantaged schools in each community it visits. While the concert itself begins at 6:30pm with opening act Patrick Davis, Ransomville Bus Lines will supply a pair of on-site buses (one at each of Artpark's entrances) as early as 3pm to accept school supply donations from concertgoers. All supplies will be collected by volunteers from the Lewiston-Porter Central School District, and later distributed amongst Niagara County schools in need of such items.

The infectious melodies of Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber and Jim “Soni” Sonefeld became worldwide sensations following the 1994 release of the band’s debut album, Cracked Rear View. With hits like “Only Wanna Be With You,” “Hold My Hand” and “Let Her Cry,” the record went on to sell over 16 million copies – the 12th best selling album in music business history – and helped the group capture Grammy Awards for “Best New Artist” and “Song of the Year” (for “Let Her Cry”). They also took home an MTV Video Music Award for “Best New Artist,” a Billboard Music Award for “Album of the Year,” a People's Choice Award for “Album of the Year” and a People's Choice Award for “Best Selling Artist,” a feat they duplicated in 1996.

The band remains a top draw nationwide and has since released five more albums for Atlantic: Fairweather Johnson, Musical Chairs, Scattered, Smothered & Covered, Hootie & the Blowfish and The Best of Hootie & the Blowfish as well as solo albums by Rucker and Bryan. The band left Atlantic by mutual agreement in 2004 and released 2005’s Looking For Lucky on their own Sneaky Long Records. LIVE in Charleston, the Homegrown Concert Event DVD/CD was released in August of 2006.

Hootie & the Blowfish believe they have a responsibility to use their celebrity status to help improve the lives of those in need, especially children. They often take the lead in creating projects where they can join forces with other organizations to help make a positive difference in lives of today’s youth. The Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation was founded just for that purpose. As a private non-profit organization, The Foundation was originally created in 2000 to benefit children of South Carolina through education and supporting school music programs—since, it has spread to a nationwide campaign. The band’s Homegrown Tour, initiated in 2003 in their hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, has helped fill 21 busloads with educational items to date, totaling around $100,000 worth of much needed school supplies for children.

Artpark’s July 3 concert event with Hootie & the Blowfish is sponsored by The Reid Group.

LAST CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE GLOBEO AT BUFFALO MUSEUM OF SCIENCE

Global warming themed exhibit closes June 22Summer hours announced.

There is only one week left to experience Globeo: Nature’s Story of Climate Change at the Buffalo Museum of Science (1020 Humboldt Pkwy., Buffalo), which runs through June 22, 2007. The exhibit, which explores what global warming might mean to Western New York and the Earth’s biodiversity, is presented with the support of M&T Bank with media support by Channel 2 On Your Side.

Equipped with touch screen technology and audio narration by Channel 2’s Maryalice Demler, GLOBEO features discovery stations that encourage visitors to explore migration patterns, forest and mountain regions, deserts, grasslands, wetlands and aquatic regions, urban ecology, and rainforests, illustrated with artifacts from the museum’s extensive collections.

A special feature of GLOBEO is the one-of-a-kind multimedia presentation created by Ontario’s Science North called “The Climate Change Show.” The 20-minute show, presented in its own object-rich interactive theatre, provides an informative yet humorous overview of global warming and climate change through the eyes of some delightful animated narrators and several theatrical special effects. An additional charge of $2 applies to this special presentation, shown on an hourly schedule. The additional charge is waived for museum members.

Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 Noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for students with ID and children over age 3. Science museum members and children younger than three are admitted free.

On Saturday, June 23 through Thursday, July 5, the museum will be closed to the general public in order to prepare for the new family-friendly exhibit, Bug Bash, a summer celebration of “not-so-creepy crawlies.”

“Throughout the years, we’ve realized that the period between the end of school and Independence Day is a very slow traffic time for the museum,” said Carroll Ann Simon, acting president and CEO. “This year, we are taking advantage of this time in order to use our resources more effectively and install our exciting Bug Bash experience.” She added that during this time, the museum will also undergo some modest renovations to its main exhibit space, Hamlin Hall.

The museum will reopen to the public on Friday, July 6, with the following summer hour schedule: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Sundays. This summer schedule runs through Labor Day.

The Buffalo Museum of Science is the non-profit educational institution dedicated to the study and interpretation of the natural and physical sciences. Its extensive collections of over 600,000 specimens and artifacts represent all facets of the natural world with an emphasis on Western New York as well as man-made objects spanning the globe. Based at 1020 Humboldt Parkway and anchoring Buffalo’s East Side in Olmsted-designed Martin Luther King, Jr. Park since 1929, the Museum presents a wide variety of programs and services for children, teachers, families, adults, and community organizations throughout each year. The Museum also operates Tifft Nature Preserve in South Buffalo, a 264-acre urban wetland preserve on reclaimed former industrial land, and seasonally sponsors archaeological exploration at the Hiscock Site in nearby Genesee County, NY, one of North America’s richest Ice Age sites. ## ### ##

Steppenwolf Steps Into “Tuesday in the Park” Lineup!

John Kay & Co. Take A “Magic Carpet Ride” into Artpark June 26!

(Lewiston, NY) The first month of Artpark’s 2007 “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” free outdoor concert series goes out with a bang as John Kay & Steppenwolf, the band immortalized by timeless classics such as “Born to Be Wild,” “Magic Carpet Ride,” “The Pusher” and “Rock Me,” headline the June 26 installment. Lewiston resident Maria Aurigema will serve as the opening act for the event, which begins at 6:30pm and, as always, includes a plethora of hands-on art workshops for children.

Steppenwolf’s self-titled debut came out in 1968 in the middle of “flower power” and is one of the most important records in rock-and-roll history. Backed by the instant classic "Born to Be Wild," the overall psychedelic sound blended with a hard-driving beat to instantly make Steppenwolf the spokesmen for North America's attitude during the late ‘60s and mid ‘70s. Their popularity grew steadily as “Born to be Wild” was aggrandized as the backdrop to the Dennis Hopper cult-classic Easy Rider.

The band's career momentum and musical progression continued with such best-selling albums as Steppenwolf The Second (which yielded the Top-five classic "Magic Carpet Ride"), At Your Birthday Party (which spawned "Rock Me"), the ambitiously conceptual Monster (whose politically provocative title track became a surprise hit) Steppenwolf Live (which featured the studio single "Hey Lawdy Mama"), Steppenwolf 7 and For Ladies Only.

Steppenwolf broke up in 1971 following the release of For Ladies Only, and Kay went on to a successful solo career. The band reformed in 1974 with the album Slow Flux, which produced several minor hits, notably "Straight Shooting Woman," then disbanded again in 1976.

When Kay learned that two of his former bandmates were unimpressively touring with the "Steppenwolf" moniker in 1978 and tarnishing the legacy he’d spent nearly a decade building, he took action. Kay and Steppenwolf co-founder Jerry Edmonton (who by then had retired from music in favor of a career in photography) took steps to establish their legal claim to the band name.

In 1980, Kay launched an all-new lineup, now billed as John Kay and Steppenwolf, in an effort to rebuild his group's good name. The latest incarnation, featuring Kay (vocals/harmonica), Michael Wilk (keyboards/bass), Ron Hurst (drums) and Danny Johnson (guitar), has spent the past several years working a punishing touring regimen, playing everywhere possible to re-establish Steppenwolf's reputation as a class act.

The “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” concert series is also sponsored by Certo Brothers Distributing Company, Sevenson Environmental Services, Modern Corporations, Hard Rock Café – Niagara Falls (USA), S&S Lawn Services, Tim Horton’s, Pine Pharmacy and DiMino’s Lewiston Tops. Children’s art activities are sponsored by the New York Power Authority.

Artpark’s Outdoor Amphitheater can be accessed via the Upper Park’s Portage Road entrance off of Center Street or through South Fourth Street nearest the venue’s Mainstage Theater.

Carry-ins (food and beverages) are prohibited at all of Artpark’s free concert events.

Artpark’s Swing Season Opens with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra!

Concertgoers Will Enjoy a Sentimental Night of Music on June 25!

Artpark’s 2007 Big Band Series swings into action on June 25 with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, under the baton of conductor and original band member Buddy Morrow. Widely regarded as one of the best all-around dance bands of all-time, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra will perform at 2pm and 8pm at Artpark’s Mainstage Theater. To ensure its audience receives the full swing experience, Artpark features a giant dance floor inside its Mainstage Theater during each big band show.

The “Sentimental Gentleman of Swing” – as Dorsey was often referred to – was a master at creating warm musical moods with superb dancing and listener-friendly tempos. “I’ll Never Smile Again” was the orchestra’s largest commercial hit but the band churned out a lengthy list of legendary arrangements during its tenure, including “Embraceable You,” “Stardust,” “Once in a While,” “Summertime” and “Marie.” Dorsey’s orchestra’s remarkable ability to collaborate with – and catapult the careers of future industry superstars – Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Jack Leonard, Sy Oliver and Jo Stafford among them – led to Sinatra dubbing Dorsey’s ensemble "The General Motors of Music."

Today, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra is directed by trombonist Buddy Morrow and features singer Walt Andrus. The band’s repertoire embraces the classics of the original Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, as well as a spectrum of popular music, from Dixieland and rhythm and blues to progressive jazz and current rock tunes.

For ticket information, access the Artpark website at www.artpark.net, call the Artpark Box Office at (716) 754-4375 or visit www.tickets.com.

“Reminiscing” with Little River Band at Artpark!

Australian Rockers Headline June 19 “Tuesday in the Park!”

Little River Band, one of the first Australian bands to achieve substantial success in the United States, are the featured attraction of Artpark’s “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” free outdoor concert series on June 19. Route 66 will serve as the event’s opening act, which also includes a vast array of free hands-on art workshops for children, and begins at 6:30pm.

Formed in 1975 in Melbourne, Australia, Little River Band amassed international recognition following the release of their third album, 1976’s Diamantina Cocktail, which included the songs "Help Is On Its Way" and "Happy Anniversary." Yet it was the group’s 1978 LP, Sleeper Catcher, which featured a pair of chart-topping singles – “Reminiscing” and “Lady” – that garnered them worldwide superstardom. "Reminiscing" was the band's highest-ever chart achiever, reaching number three on Billboard’s Top-100 whereas "Lady" was the band's highest-ever selling single.

Little River Band’s popularity continued to skyrocket following other catchy tunes such as “Lonesome Loser,” “Cool Change” and George Martin-produced tracks like “The Nightowls,” “Take It Easy On Me” and “Man On Your Mind.” By 1982 they became the only act – from anywhere – to have a Top-10 U.S. single for six consecutive years.

In total, Little River Band has sold more than 25 million records worldwide and has accumulated gold, platinum, and multi-platinum album sales awards. The current quintet consists of guitarist Rich Herring, bass player Wayne Nelson, guitarist/vocalist Greg Hind, drummer Billy Thomas and keyboardist Chris Marion.

For more information, access the Artpark website at www.artpark.net or call the Artpark Box Office at (716) 754-4375.

The Earl W. Brydges Artpark is being operated by Artpark & Company, Inc. for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation under a license agreement.

Saturday June 9th An Evening With Stanley Jordan
One of the most significant guitarists of the latter 20th century!
TRYING TO DESCRIBE STANLEY JORDAN IN SIMPLE TERMS is like trying to explain Einstein's Theory of Relativity in ten words or less. Stanley uses a technique called the "Touch" or "Tapping" technique to achieve a level of orchestral complexity equaling that of a keyboard instrument. He can sound like two or three guitarists at the same time with no over dubs or other studio techniques .Although he was originally marketed as a jazz artist, his direction has boldly evolved into a broad synthesis of styles. How do you classify an artist who freely mixes baroque and blues in the same phrase? A show not to miss !!

The story of Stanley Jordan's career seems as legendary as his unique playing technique. He had earned a degree in music theory and composition from Princeton University, yet he chose to make his a living as a street musician, playing in New York, Philadelphia and various towns in the Midwest and the South.

Before long, word began to spread about the incredible guitarist playing for pocket change. Stanley auditioned for record executive Bruce Lundvall, who was then heading the Elektra Musician label. Lundvall offered him a record deal on the spot. But Stanley felt that he wasn't quite ready, and he continued to focus on his music and his new family (with the recent birth of his daughter). It was a year and a half before he was ready to sign. Bruce Lundvall had moved to the newly-reactivated Blue Note Records, and Stanley Jordan became the label's first new artist. The album that followed, Magic Touch (1985), was a phenomenal success (#1 on Billboard's jazz chart for 51 weeks, two Grammy nominations and certified Gold in U.S. and Japan).

Offering an intelligent, sensitive synthesis of jazz styles, Magic Touch touched a nerve in the general public. His cover of Michael Jackson's “The Lady in My Life” is considered a definitive standard for the genre known as contemporary jazz. In 1986, Stanley made a cameo appearance in the movie “Blind Date,” with Bruce Willis and Kim Basinger. He made frequent appearances on TV shows such as The Tonite Show with Johnny Carson, Late Nite with David Letterman and Regis and Kathy Lee. His music videos were widely seen, appearing on national channels such as VH-1 and BET.

We invite you to share an evening at The Tralf with one of the most innovative jazz guitarists on the planet…early June is a great time for guitar virtuosity at the Tralf, come cool off to Jordan’s eclectic sty lings and our fully air conditioned venue, with full bar and restaurant.

Calling all students of the guitar young and old...one of today's most innovative guitar players will be be stopping by The Tralf Sat June 9 th, 8pm STANLEY JORDAN ( all ages show with a parent) http://www.stanleyjordan.com/

Sunday June 10th KISS 98.5 presents: An Intimate Evening With Teddy Geiger Sunday, June 10th marks a special day at The Tralf Music Hall. We are honored to present an intimate performance from a local hero, and one of the nations hottest rising pop stars.
Teddy is a self-taught musician who, by the age of 8, was writing and arranging finished multi-part compositions on guitar and piano. By the time he got to high school, Teddy, too young to perform in local bars, was building an alternative following at the area's teen venues, performing the songs that seem to flow from his pen as instinctively as his fans--who'd begun calling themselves "Tedheads"--began pouring into all-ages gigs all over the upstate New York region to watch him perform. Teddy's fan base demographic runs a wide gamut, from wide-eyed teenage girls to serious music fans hungry for something real.

"Teddy Geiger projects an easy charm along with his real pop chops," raved The New York Times while People magazine, in a three-and-a-half star "Critic's Choice" review, praised "...a talent far beyond his years on a first-rate pop CD....an assured knack for big, sweeping melodies...just the right heartthrob combination of sexy and sweet....Teddy Geiger should have a long career ahead of him."

"His songs are catchy," observed the New York Post, "and he has a gritty, sensitive voice that suits his romantic lyrics. The honesty in the music makes you believe the kid isn't a fabrication...."

Guitar World Acoustic called Teddy "...a polished stylist whose music recalls the works of such tunesmiths as John Mayer and the young Dave Matthews..." while heralding "lyrics that are sometimes powerfully intimate, while at other times raucously joyous."

In its review of Underage Thinking, the All Music Guide noted that "...like the best adult pop, which this certainly is, the songs show their individual strengths upon repeated plays..." before calling Teddy's voice "sincerely soulful" and his music "warm, comfortable and, above all, memorable."

Teddy Geiger's grassroots buzz is rapidly becoming a roar. Don’t hesitate to purchase your advance tickets to this one, as you don’t want to miss your chance to catch one of the country’s hottest young rising stars in a comfortable, intimate setting, one that only The Tralf Music Hall can provide.

June 19th Richard Thompson Richard Thompson returns to the Tralf for what will undoubtedly be a legendary performance. Please come share an evening at The Tralf with one of the greatest folk/guitar heroes of all time, Richard Thompson
After earning a reputation as a fine guitarist in school bands like Emil and the Detectives, Richard had his first brush with 'fame' as a teenaged founding member of the 1960's folk-rock pioneers, Fairport Convention. Playing an inventive musical mix of blues and California-style rock, the group was quickly dubbed "the new Jefferson Airplane". The band's founding members were discovered playing in London’s Soho district, by American producer Joe Boyd. Boyd secured them a recording contract and their eponymous debut album was released in 1968. Shortly thereafter, the band's lead vocalist, Judy Dyble, was replaced with the ethereal songstress, Sandy Denny.

Other personnel changes followed and over the next four years, Fairport Convention gradually developed a more personal and British based repertoire. 1969's Liege and Lief, long regarded as a milestone recording in defining British Rock, revealed the extent of Richard's talent as a songwriter. Here he penned contemporary songs that drew upon deep traditional genres, a writing style that would follow him throughout his career. Other 1969 releases included What We Did on Our Holidays, and Unhalfbricking.

Richard's last album with the group was Full House, released in 1970.

That year the band also made its American debut, touring with Traffic and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Richard subsequently left the group in 1971.

Richard’s career has remained at a peak for over 30 years. His most recent project, the soundtrack to Werner Herzog's documentary, Grizzly Man, which debuted at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, where the film won the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan award.

For more than three decades, Richard Thompson has consistently set songwriting and performance standards others aspire to. He has long been acknowledged both as a sensitive writer and an innovative guitarist. Over the course of his career, Thompson has earned numerous awards and honors, including the Ivor Novello Award for songwriting, the Orville Gibson Award for guitarists, and the #19 spot on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of all-time guitar greats.

So please join us for the return of a true legend, at the venue with the best sound, the most comfortable viewing experience, and the all around classiest joint in town!

Big Time Jump Blues @ The Tralf Thursday June 21 st, 8 pm ** Little Charlie and The Night Cats with special guests The Electras..
Hey everybody, Little Charlie and The Night Cats have a new CD out and are back on the road bringing you the hottest west coast jump blues on the planet. Catch 'em live when the boys hit The Tralf 6/21* 8pm

It's been over 30 years since world-class musicians guitarist Little Charlie Baty and harmonicist/vocalist/songwriter Rick Estrin first teamed up and took hard Chicago blues, jump, Texas swing and jazz and mixed it with rockabilly, proto-rock'n'roll, jumping jive, bebop and Estrin's sharply original lyrics, creating a sound one critic described as "Charlie Christian playing in Little Walter's band." Their utter mastery of American roots music is fueled by Baty's jaw-dropping guitar acrobatics and driven by Estrin's captivating original songs, cutting vocals and brilliant harmonica playing. The new CD, NINE LIVES, features 13 original songs--including three smoking instrumentals--and showcases the band's constantly growing repertoire and chops.

"Fabulous jump blues; remarkable original material"
-Billboard

"Little Charlie & the Nightcats take a healthy dose of blues and make it shimmy and shake with hip jazz and rolling retro-rock riffs punctuated with sizzling guitar and harp solos."
-New York Post

June 26th, Rickie Lee Jones June is a special month, and with special months, come special events. On the evening of June 26th, we are proud to present the one of a kind sounds of the highly influential songstress Rickie Lee Jones.
Touted as the natural successor to Joni Mitchell, singer/songwriter Rickie Lee Jones proved no less idiosyncratic or mercurial; like Mitchell, Jones experienced significant commercial success at the outset of her career, but a restless creative spirit -- combined with a stubborn refusal to fit comfortably into any one musical niche -- sealed her ultimate destiny as that of a highly regarded cult heroine.

Jones was born on November 8, 1954, in Chicago, but the volatile relationship between her mother and father resulted in an upbringing that led her everywhere from Phoenix, AZ, to Olympia, WA, where an expulsion ended her school career. As a teen, Jones began drinking heavily, and eventually she left home and began drifting up and down the West Coast before settling in Los Angeles in the mid-'70s. There she worked a series of waitressing jobs while occasionally performing in area clubs, where she sang and honed her unique, Beat-influenced spoken word monologues. She also began a relationship with fellow boho Tom Waits.

Her first measure of success was as a songwriter; after her friend Ivan Ulz sang Jones' composition "Easy Money" over the phone to Lowell George, the ex-Little Feat front man included it on his album Thanks I'll Eat It Here. Then in 1978 Jones' four-song demo came to the attention of Warner Brothers executive Lenny Waronker, who enlisted Russ Titleman to co-produce her self-titled 1979 debut LP. Spurred by the success of the jazz-flavored hit single "Chuck E's in Love," Rickie Lee Jones became a smash both commercially and critically, earning praise for Jones' elastic vocals, vivid wordplay, and unique fusion of folk, jazz, and R&B.

Problems with alcohol, business difficulties, and the birth of a daughter effectively sidelined Jones for much of the decade; she did not resurface until 1989's sterling Flying Cowboys, produced by Steely Dan's Walter Becker and recorded with the aid of the wonderful Scottish trio the Blue Nile. Don Was took over the production reins for 1991's Pop Pop, on which Jones covered ballads ranging in origin from Tin Pan Alley to the Haight-Ashbury while backed by jazz players including Charlie Haden and Joe Henderson. After 1993's Traffic From Paradise, she embarked on an acoustic tour; Naked Songs, a document of those unplugged shows, followed in 1995. Ghostyhead was released in 1997 and the standards record It's Like This appeared three years later.

She returned to original material in 2003 with The Evening of My Best Day, an album that expressed her anger with contemporary American politics. During the summer of 2005, Rhino released the three-CD anthology Duchess of Coolsville.

We are proud to be presenting such a lovely and historic enchantress, and we hope you will join us. Please do not hesitate to purchase advanced tickets on this one, we don’t want you left out in the cold!

June 29th Jimmie Thackery
If you’re a fan of hard driving, hard working, hard drinking blues, then this event is for you!

Singer, songwriter, and guitar virtuoso Jimmy Thackery has carved an enviable niche for himself in the world of electric blues. Known for his gritty, blue-collar approach and marathon live shows, Thackery was for many years part of the Nighthawks , one of the hardest-working blues bar bands in North America; since the late '80s, he's been touring and recording under his own name, and has found widespread acceptance on the festival circuit. His hard-edged, tough-as-nails approach to guitar playing and his trio's driving rhythm section holds appeal for fans of both the straight-ahead blues of Muddy Waters and the roots rock of Bruce Springsteen and Joe Grushecky . Like the Nighthawks and Grushecky's Houserockers , much of the material Thackery performs can safely be called blues or blues-rock. Hardcore blues like "It's My Own Fault" and popular blues-rock chestnuts like "Red House" from Jimi Hendrix are fair game for Thackery & His Drivers, who include Michael Patrick on bass and Mark Stutso on drums and vocals.

Born in Pittsburgh, Thackery was raised in Washington, D.C. In high school, he played in a band with Bonnie Raitt 's brother, David , who exposed him to the music of Buddy Guy ; Thackery saw both Guy and Jimi Hendrix perform in Washington, D.C. Thackery joined the Nighthawks in 1974, after being introduced to harmonica man Mark Wenner by fellow guitarist Bobby Radcliff , who was then based in D.C. Thackery recorded more than 20 albums with the Nighthawks and toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Japan. He left the band in 1987 and struck out on his own, needing a break from the Nighthawks ' 300-nights-a-year tour schedule.

His 1998 album includes guest performances by Joe Louis Walker ,Lonnie Brooks ,Chubby Carrier , and Francine Reed , but any of Thackery's albums will delight fans of tough, heavy, driving guitar playing. For a taste of his thorough mastery of several styles, Drive to Survive touches on rockabilly, jazz, bebop, and surf music. Most of Thackery's albums include at least a few covers mixed in with his batch of self-penned songs.

July 3rd, Radio Birdman
Though the band had passed over Buffalo on their last American reunion tour, The Queen City will now have it’s chance to witness one of the most critically lauded reunion tours of the summer.

Although the best-known band of the early Australian punk scene of the late '70s was the Saints, the first band to wave the punk rock flag in the land down under was Radio Birdman. Formed by Australian émigré Deniz Tek (originally from Ann Arbor, MI) and Aussie surfer-turned-vocalist Rob Younger in 1974, Radio Birdman's approach to rock & roll was rooted in the high-energy, apocalyptic guitar rant of the Stooges and MC5 , sprinkled liberally with a little East Coast underground hard rock courtesy of Blue Öyster Cult . Their first EP, Burn My Eye , released in 1976, was a great record and still remains a seminal chunk of Aussie punk. Loud and snotty, with Younger bellowing his guts out and Tek on a search-and-destroy mission with his guitar, this was a great debut that set the stage for the impending deluge of Aussie punk bands waiting in the wings.

After the release of their debut LP, Radios Appear (the title comes from a lyric in the Blue Öyster Cult song "Dominance and Submission"), in Australia a year later, Radio Birdman seemed poised to break Aussie punk worldwide. And although the American label Sire (then the home of the Ramones) was quick to sign them and distribute Radios Appear internationally in 1978, there was a gap of three years before they released a second album, Living Eyes. During that time, dozens of other Aussie punk bands stole their thunder, and Radio Birdman split up almost immediately after Living Eyes was released. Sire never released the record outside of Australia, and Radio Birdman, who should have been the biggest band in Aussie punk, was now a highly regarded punk forefather.

2001 saw a renewal of interest in Radio Birdman thanks to an excellent compilation, The Essential Radio Birdman: 1974-1978 , released by Sub Pop in the States. Murder City Nights: Live arrived in 2003, followed by the all-new Zeno Beach in 2006.

Please join us for a fantastic opportunity to witness one of the unsung heroes of underground rock and roll, all the way from way down under!

July 20th Gerald Albright and Friends
Gerald Albright is a Saxophone great. Want proof? Simply look a short list of some of the more well-known artists Albright has played with during his career. Names like Anita Baker, Quincy Jones ,the Temptations ,Phil Collins ,Whitney Houston , and many, many more hint at just a small portion of the wide scope of influence this phenomenal player has had during his 30 plus years.

Gerald’s career first swung into the spotlight when, during the 1980s, he became a highly requested session musician. His revered reputation resulted in a solo contract with Altantic Records. His first album for the label, Just Between Us, introduced him to the masses in 1987, and numerous albums resulted, including a best-of collection in 2001. Albright's fame peaked in the early '90s, around the time he released Live at Birdland West, a brave album for the saxman showcasing his ability to play jazz as well as R&B. He moved from Atlantic to GRP in 2002 for the Groovology album, his first in over five years, and continued to maintain his busy schedule as a session man. His second GRP album, Kickin' It Up, followed in 2004. Two years later he appeared on Peak Records, which released New Beginnings.

If you are a jazz fan, you won’t want to miss one of the greats as Gerald Albright brings his R&B influenced sax styles complete with full band to The Tralf Music Hall on July 20th.
