Drew De Four Returns to Nietzsche’s (248 Allen St) Fri 10/23

Back from Tours of UK/Ireland/Poland for U.S. Release of ‘The Troubadour:’ Epic Project

BUFFALO, NY – Popular singer/piano-player Drew De Four will return to Buffalo this week to deliver a special performance at Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen Street, on Friday, October 23. Showtime is 6pm (happy hour).

De Four has been touring solidly since April: first around the north east, then extensively throughout the UK, Ireland, and Poland. In returning to the U.S., De Four and producer Devin Kerr put the finishing touches on De Four’s ambitious new album, ‘The Troubadour,’ at Kerr’s Good Hertz recording studio (Ann Arbor, MI). The epic project took months in studio, includes performances by 20 session players, and features compositions battle-tested by years of international touring. While the De Four is already signed by Japan’s Grey Dog’s Records, ‘The Troubadour’ is positioned to be picked up in the U.S. this album cycle. ‘The Troubadour’ was released on 10/12.

De Four’s dynamic live performance incorporates the balladeer elements of Tom Waits, the soul and playfulness of Dr. John, and the high energy virtuosity of Ray Charles. A well-seasoned performer at only 26 years of age, De Four has averaged 150 shows per year since 2004. In which time, he also released two heralded full-length CDs and a collection of piano solos. De Four is regarded as being the best dueling piano player in America. In financing his career in original music, De Four has toured relentlessly as a dueler, coast to coast, and performed at more than 30 of the nation’s finest dueling piano bars. De Four hails from the Detroit, Michigan area, and has been performing in upstate NY since 2004.

De Four’s entire NY tour itinerary can be found at myspace.com/drewd4. Troubadour tracks “Keep a Light” and “The Tower” are posted, as well.

RAISING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS THROUGH MUSIC

(Buffalo, NY) It‘s been 6 consecutive years, since Ida Goeckel, a local female musician and breast cancer survivor, started organizing the annual Female Musicians Fighting Breast Cancer music benefit. The 7th of these annual fundraising events is once again set to raise awareness and funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s Breast Care Center and Resource Center.

The event is to be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009, at Macaroon’s Nite Club (576 Dick Rd., Depew, N.Y..) Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. with four area bands, featuring female members, donating their talent to perform starting at 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. This year’s performances will be another fine gathering of the best WNY area has to offer in each respective musical genre. They are: The easy listening sounds of Mystic Traversion, the uncharted fused waters of Whatsie, the best in country music from East of Eden, followed by WNY’s own answer to female fronted classic hard rock, Passionworks, as the headliner.

Prizes generously donated by local and national merchants will be raffled off throughout the show, with larger ticket items in a silent auction, as well as 50/50 splits run twice throughout the show. Admission to the benefit to witness all this talent under one roof will be just $10.00. There will be a cash bar and food to enhance the experience.

This unique fundraiser, sanctioned by the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation and Team Cure, donates 100% of the proceeds to Roswell Park’s Breast Care Clinic and Resource Center located at Elm and Carlton St. in Buffalo, N.Y. The mission of this benefit is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of breast cancer patients. The center provides patients with resources, research information, and treatment options related to breast cancer. In 2003, the program expanded its efforts to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Statistics now indicate that the older you get, the greater your risk for developing breast cancer. Chances increase from 1 in 233 for women up through their 30's to 1 in 8 up through age 85+. A smaller number of men are at risk as well. It is also the fifth leading cause of death in US women ( heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, and respiratory disease exceed breast cancer). Approximately 40,000 women die each year from breast cancer. Many strides and advances have been made in both the early detection and subsequent treatment for breast cancer patients. Continued studies and research, just within the last 10-12 years, have greatly reduced the risk of recurrence and have given thousands of women and men diagnosed with breast cancer new hope for a bright future.

New studies have also dispelled common myths or have had inconclusive cause and effect results. An example is the link between caffeine and breast cancer. To date, there is no evidence of such a link.

With greater concentration on pinpointing its cause and developing a cure, perhaps the next generation will no longer needlessly have to be concerned about the risk of breast cancer. In the meantime, it is important that those who have been diagnosed receive the compassionate care and treatment that Roswell has to offer at its Breast Care Clinic, as well as arm themselves with the available up-to-date information at Roswell‘s Resource Center. The entire community is invited to support this worthy cause.
