Celebrate summer with Americana Days and camps at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

Celebrate summer with Americana Days and camps at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

Americana Days and summer camps are among the upcoming highlights at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village.

Guests are invited to celebrate America’s greatest traditions and pastimes during fun-filled Americana Days. This family friendly event will feature carnival food, educational activities, live music, farm animals and local artisan vendors. Other highlights will include historic games and crafts, a museum-wide scavenger hunt and badminton by Rally Niagara Badminton.

Americana Days will be celebrated on Saturday, July 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 7 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

A variety of summer camps will also be offered at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village.

Encore Music Education and Entertainment will present Rock Camp — a week-long program that teaches students all different elements of music: tempo, pitch, tune and rhythm with an emphasis on rock ’n roll. Each day, students will have improvisational labs, vocal exercises, rhythm studies and band practice. Throughout the week, campers will be put into groups to rehearse for their final concert. The week will conclude with a live concert on Saturday at BNHV.

Youth Group Week, for ages 8 to 12, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8-13. Teenage Group Week, for ages 13 to 17, takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15 -20. The cost is $250.

Students in grades 8 through 12 will have a chance to learn what goes on behind the scenes at BNHV during Junior Curator Summer Camp. Participants will tour the collections storage facility and learn about accessioning artifacts. This is a hands-on program where students will learn about conservation, preservation and proper handling techniques for artifacts. They will also work in teams to create an exhibit plan and install their exhibit at BNHV. This program will be presented by curator Jessica Johnson. Please bring a bagged lunch. Space is limited to 10 students and the cost is $80 for members and $100 for nonmembers. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 23-25.

Miss Sara's Sheep and Wool Class is a three-day program where children have the opportunity to learn hands-on how wool is processed from sheep sheerings to a finished woven product. Participants will learn about sheep’s wool, felting, carding, spinning and dyeing. Students will also make journals, portable looms and other craft projects. This program is for children ages 8 and up, and space is limited to 10 guests. The cost is $80 for members and $100 for nonmembers, and the camp runs from noon to 4 p.m. July 26-28 and Aug. 23-25.

Heritage Games EDventure will give youngsters a chance to explore how children in the 19th century lived and played. This program is packed full of activities and excitement! Children will play historic games as well as make toys and crafts to take home and share with family and friends. Some activities will include learning the game of croquet, making balance and parachute toys, tin punching, churning butter and more. This program is for children ages 8 and up; please bring a bagged lunch. Space is limited to 15 children and the cost is $80 for members and $100 for nonmembers. Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 6-8.

Three 2 Go Music Alliance Releases New CD Single “Friends First”

Three 2 Go Music Alliance Releases New CD Single “Friends First”

Featuring Legendary Entertainer, Lance Diamond

“Friends First” is a smooth new R&B single from Three 2 Go Music Alliance. Ronald Walker, founder of Three 2 Go Music and president of the Three 2 Go Alliance, wrote the songfor Buffalo Music Hall of Fame inductee Lance Diamond.

Lance Diamond is a dynamic entertainment legend and international recording artist from Western New York. Known for his high powered shows and masterful entertainment skills, his performances throughout Western New York and Buffalo cross all age groups - many of whom continue to enjoy his weekly appearances at the Elmwood Lounge (now Milkie’s). Lance’s last released album was the 2004 Christmas Album, “A Lance Diamond Christmas.”

“Friends First” is an old-fashioned song that tells the story of how love unfolds. Lance combined his extraordinary talent with international vocalist Melissa Kate to record a beautiful musical arrangement. This sensual duet is reminiscent of classic duets like “Endless Love” that will touch the hearts of many, and create memories for a lifetime.

A special note and request: The sister of Lance Diamond (who does not wished to be named), is struggling with ALS.She has asked that partial proceeds from the sales of the CD “Friends First” be donated to a local ALS foundation. We wish to respect her privacy but hope you will support our endeavors.

What is ALS? ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease." It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to death.

The CD is available online now at CDBaby.com, and taylormadejazz.com. Physical CDs are available starting June 17th at the following locations: Doris Records in Buffalo, NY, Nelson’s Hair Salon in Niagara Falls, NY (1326 Portage Road), Record Theater, and in select shops throughout Western New York.Beginning July 1, 2013 it will be available on I-Tunes and via various online media.

Join us in spreading the word and supporting not only a great cause, but a great entertainer. Thank you for your support.
