11th ANNUAL FEMALE MUSICIANS FIGHTING BREAST CANCER BENEFIT
player, and now two time breast cancer survivor, founded and organized the first annual
Female Musicians Fighting Breast Cancer Benefit. The 11th Anniversary Female
Musicians Fighting Breast Cancer benefit is once again set to raise awareness and funds for
the WNY Breast Cancer Resource Center, the go-to support and information center on the
grounds of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. It is where patients and their support network
can learn to make informed choices and become better equipped to explore their
treatment options.
The event will occur on
Sunday October 20th, 2013 at The Forvm at 4224 Maple Rd. at
the
Maple Entertainment Complex
in Amherst, N.Y. Doors will open at 1:30
p.m. with four local bands, featuring female members, donating their talent to perform from 2:00
p.m.-7:00.p.m. This year’s performances will be another fine gathering of some of the best
WNY area has to offer in pop, rock, and blues. Gracing the stage this year for the first time
at this event will be Triple Threat, Silver X-treme, the Yvonne Schmidt Band, and our
headliner, Rumourz, WNY’s premier Fleetwood Mac tribute!!!
Prizes generously donated by local and
national merchants will be raffled off
throughout the show, as well as 50/50 splits
run twice throughout the show. Admission to witness all this talent under one roof will be just $10.00. There will be a
cash bar and the fine food at the venue to enhance the experience.
This fundraiser, sanctioned by the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation and Team
Cure, donates 100% of the proceeds to Roswell Park’s WNY Breast Cancer Resource
Center located at Elm and Carlton St. in Buffalo, N.Y. It is the original music benefit to
raise Breast Cancer Awareness and has spawned similar events locally. The mission of this
benefit is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and empowerment of breast cancer
patients.
Statistics now indicate that the older you
get, the greater your risk for developing breast
cancer. Chances increase
from 1 in 233 for women up through their 30's to 1 in 8 up through age 85+. A smaller number of men are at risk as well. It is also the fifth leading
cause of death in US women ( heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, and respiratory disease exceed breast cancer).
Approximately 40,000 women
die each year from breast cancer. Many strides and
advances have been made in
both the early detection and subsequent treatment for breast cancer patients. Continued studies and research, just within the last 10-12 years, have
greatly reduced the risk of recurrence and have given thousands of women and men
diagnosed with breast cancer new hope for a bright future.
New studies have also
dispelled common myths or have had inconclusive cause and
effect results. An example
is the link between caffeine and breast cancer. To date, there
is
no evidence of such a
link. With greater concentration on pinpointing its cause and developing a cure through
research, perhaps the next generation will no longer needlessly have to be concerned about
the risk of breast cancer.
In the meantime, it is important that those who have been diagnosed receive the
compassionate care and treatment that Roswell
has to offer at its Breast Care Clinic, as
well as arm themselves with the available
up-to-date information at Roswell‘s WNY
Breast Cancer Resource
Center. The entire community is invited to support this
worthy
cause. For further
