Three Bucks and a Doe Series Spotlights Land Conservancy

Sportsmens Tavern song swap offers intriguing lineups

The Sportsmens Tavern is considered by many to be the best listening venue in Buffalo – where a performer can command a crowd to the point of pin-drop silence. It’s the perfect place, then, for a series of song swaps that will serve to celebrate the work of a local organization committed to conserving open spaces where we can escape the sounds of civilization.

The “Three Bucks and a Doe” song swap series brings together a dozen local musicians across three consecutive Wednesdays from March 31st through April 14th. Each week, a quartet featuring three gents and a lady will share songs and stories, with the Western New York Land Conservancy on hand to promote their programs and mission. The cost for Three Bucks and a Doe? Three bucks at the door, of course!

"As with all good things in Western New York, our ability to permanently protect natural land, prime working farms, and scenic vistas depends on the support of our community,” said Land Conservancy Executive Director Pat Szarpa. “Fun events like this help our work to protect Western New York for generations to come."

The kickoff offers a first-time gathering between four artists who’ve often shared the same bill; the second week pairs musical soulmates John & Mary with two frontmen, Buck Quigley (Steam Donkeys) and Brad Gower (Photos of Wagons), who’ve only shared the stage when Quigley, host of the Artvoice Battle of Original Music (BOOM), recently presented Gower’s band with the 2010 grand prize; and the finale features singer Joelle Labert with three friends who frequently invite her onstage at their own shows.

The lineup for each night, set to start at 7:00pm, is as follows –

March 31st – Alison Pipitone, Guillermo Izquierdo, Rob Lynch, Geno McManus

April 7th – Mary Ramsey, Brad Gower, John Lombardo, Buck Quigley

April 14th – Joelle Labert, John G. Brady, Greg Klyma, Andy Wegrzyn

The Good Neighborhood is a Buffalo-based company that pairs performers with common causes to create Gatherings for the Common Good.
