DjamBossa (jam-boss-a) -Djambossa is inspired by the late great gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. We start our name, like he did. Djambossa is highly improvisational, we love to "jam". Djambossa infuses latin styles like bossanova into our set. A sometimes soft and sometimes scathing acoustic mélange. An eclectic mix of ethnic folk - gypsy jazz, bossanova, flamenco and even blues. Coming soon to a bar stool near you.

Willie Nile at The Tralf Music Hall

Event: WILLIE NILE
Place: The Tralf Music Hall - $23 presale / $27 day of
Event Date: Saturday March 6th, 2010
Event Time: 8pm

Nile is a songwriters' songwriter. No less a personage than Lucinda Williams has said of him, "Willie Nile is a great artist. If there was any justice in this world, I'd be opening up for him instead of him for me." And he's never been more eloquent than he is here.Lou Reed hails Streets of New York as "a great album," while Graham Parker calls it "a real gem”stirring melodies, passionate vocals, intriguing lyrics¦every track a winner." Says Ian Hunter, Willie's from the big-hearted downtown alleyways of NYC (New York commitment). Well done! Little Steven adds, "Willie Nile is so good I can't believe he's not from New Jersey!" Nile grew up in Buffalo, New York, part of a bustling Irish Catholic family with what he calls "an open-door policy." For as far back as Willie can remember, his parents welcomed house guests from around the world for extended stays, and "the cosmopolitan nature of the world kind of rubbed off," he says. (Willie will be playing with local musicians who happen to be friends and family on March 6th.) After studying philosophy at the University of Buffalo, he headed for Greenwich Village, determined to make a name for himself as alatter-day troubadour. That he did throughout the '70s, becoming a fixture in the Village folk and rock scenes and getting tabbed as the next big thing to come out of that long-thriving artistic community. Writing in The New York Times, the great rock critic Robert Palmer called him "one of the most gifted singer-songwriters to emerge from the New York scene in years." He made his recording debut in 1980 with his acclaimed self-titled LPon Arista Records, following it a year later with Golden Down. He also opened the Who's North American tour at the personal request of the band. In 1982, he signed to Geffen Records but got caught in record-biz limbo and didn't manage to release another record until 1991, when Columbia issued Places I Have Never Been. With the EP Hard Times in America in 1992, which became a cult favorite throughout Europe, Nile finally managed to jump off the major-label hamster wheel. Gathering together his resources over time, he managed to put out his first self-released album, Beautiful Wreck of the World, just before the end of the century. Willie, his youthful energy unflagging, and he's never sounded more committed to the themes he's tackled. Please welcome Willie Nile toThe Tralf Music Hall, Saturday March 6th, 2010!

Weekend, popular recording group

333 Prospect St., Niagara Falls, NY, phone 282-0007

Weekend, the popular Buffalo recording group that began performing in the 1970s and reunited in 1998, returns to the Hard Rock Café in Niagara Falls, NY, on Friday, February 19, 2010.

Weekend takes the stage at 8:00 for a free concert at the Hard Rock Café, 333 Prospect Street, Niagara Falls, NY (282-0007) as part of their “Free Music Friday” concert series.

The group, known for pristine vocal harmonies once compared to Crosby, Stills and Nash in a Billboard Magazine record pick in 1971, still boasts powerful vocals and strong musicianship. Playing original music as well as popular favorites spanning four decades, Weekend’s audience now consists of a new generation of fans introduced to the group by parents who brought their children to see their favorite group from the early days when Buffalo music bands packed clubs and schools seven nights a week.

Weekend was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2000, and their hit song Together is included on the first BMHOF compilation CD. They performed last November at the Hard Rock in the Hall of Fame Bands’ Friday Night Music Series and are introducing new songs at their next show.

Newest member Michael McGuire (singer with Coda and Wunderland) has added a new dimension to the bands vocals with his strong lead voice and contributes on guitar and keys. Ned Wood’s vocal arranging is reminiscent of Brian Wilson or David Crosby, and he delivers amazing keyboard skills to complement Frank Grizanti’s versatile guitar work. Twin brothers Tom and Rick Ryan (drums and bass respectively) are known for their solid foundation and groove that drives the band’s sound.

Jersey recording artist Southside Johnny raved about Weekend and told the audience it was hard to follow this band’s performance and amazing vocals when they shared the stage at Club Infinity in May of 2007. And who doesn’t remember the band’s all original music set at Artpark, warming up the crowd of almost 20,000 Styx fans on a Tuesday night in July of 2006, or a 1999 performance with the The Animals at Thursday at the Square?

Weekend promises more summer shows and is also scheduled to perform the Gateway Park Wednesday Canal Concert series on August 11, 2010.
