New Year's on the Canal
GATEWAY HARBOR BALL DROP
Event is drawing near.
All is on schedule for the New Year's Eve Ball Drop. The BALL, fabricated by AN-COR INDUSTRIAL PLASTICS in North Tonawanda, will have the hundreds of lights applied early next week. APEX CONSULTING out of Lockport has put their engineering stamp of approval to the drawing of metal rigging designed to lower the ball. Installation of the rigging, supplied by BUFFALO STEEL in Kenmore, goes in place atop the building, corner of Webster & Sweeney starting on Monday. Site plans for the food and cocktail tents are mapped out, the heaters to be provided by the NATIONAL GUARD and portable restrooms have all been ordered.
Kids Fun Zone buttons are on sale at a discounted cost of $3.00 with purchase of $20.00 in groceries at both Budweys' Supermarkets. Regular price $5.00 buttons are available at DeGraff Hospital Gift Shop, The YWCA, Walker Bros. & Monroe Jewelers, and the Tonawanda News.
Pre-Sale $10.00 Pub Crawl Mugs are now available at all participating Pubs; Broadway Hotel, Ava's Place, Dwyers Irish pub, Crazy Jake's, The Griffin, The Knights of Columbus, The Dockside and the Elk's Lodge #860. On New Year's Eve, the Mugs will ONLY be available at the Information Tent located on Sweeney Street near the ball drop site. Supplies are limited.
Innocent Bystanders will open the concert at 8:00pm on the Sweeney Street Stage. Headliner, Nickel City Pimp Choir performs next, taking us into the countdown to 2009. Then shortly after the stroke of midnight, a display of 20,000 firework bursts will be shot from the Renaissance Bridge.
LIBERTY CAB owned by North Tonawanda resident Bill Yuhnke, is on board to provide an alternative means of transportation home should you choose to drink.
Volunteers are still needed. For more information visit the web at www.gatewayballdrop.com.
