MSM Jazz November Calendar
To the MSM community,
We hope you are enjoying an eventful fall! We have a number of amazing announcements.
Miguel Zenon - MacArthur Genius GrantWe are happy to announce that alto saxophonist Miguel Zenon has been named a MacArthur Fellow for 2008 by the MacArthur Foundation. Congratulations Miguel !!!!!!!!! You deserve it!!!!!! Miguel will be giving a masterclass with his quartet on November 4th at 3:00pm.
Monk Competition - Saxophone Winners!
The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz recently announced the twelve semifinalists in the 2008 International Jazz Saxophone competition. We're very proud to announce that of those semifinalists FOUR are MSM alums! There are David DeJesus, Tim Green, Jon Irabagon and Walter Smith.
And to top it off, at the final competition last weekend in Los Angeles, Jon Irabagon and Tim Green placed first and second place respectively!!!
As well, Sherrise Rogers was also announced as the 2008 Composer's Competition winner. Sherrise had the opportunity to perform her winning composition, "Transitions", at the gala event.
Congratulations to all to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This concert is a chance to introduce our new faculty members and will include compositions by Jim McNeely and performances by George Garzone, saxophone; Scott Wendholt, trumpet; and Ted Rosenthal, piano. It will also include a special performance of Krzysztof Knittel's Lipps for Jazz Trio and Orchestra, presented by the Polish Cultural Institute.
