JUST BUFFALO LITERARY CENTER PRESENTS
WHERE WORDS & MUSIC MEET: MULTIPLE SHADES OF BLUE
Buffalo, NY—Just Buffalo Literary Center is pleased to announce Where Words & Music Meet: Multiple Shades of Blue, an interdisciplinary event featuring poetry and Blues music by LaShaun phoenix Moore, N’Tare Ali Gault, and the Shorty Long Blues Band on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. at Hallwalls, 341 Delaware Ave. at Tupper. Tickets are $5 general, $3 students/seniors, and $2 for Just Buffalo members, available at the door.
According to the series’ emcee, local poet and singer Joyce Carolyn, this is an opportunity to “shake off, regroup, get in touch with your inner self, relax, laugh, cry, enjoy the very best of the spoken word and down home music.” She cites one song’s lyrics as the impetus behind Multiple Shades of Blue: “Some Blues are sad . . . but then some are glad. Dark and sad or bright and glad, we’re all Blues, all shades, all hues, all Blues.”
LaShaun phoenix Moore, a performance poet, vocalist and activist, hails from Detroit, Michigan. Her work calls upon African Americans and their cultural, spiritual, and sexual awareness; she has performed for eleven years, both in the US and internationally. Moore states, “Singing and writing are the vehicles by which I connect to the soul of the listener, penetrating their heart and mind with rich vocals and words alive with significance.” Her book, Absence of Smoke & Mirrors, is forthcoming and features a foreword by former Essence Magazine features editor and noted author/activist asha bandele. She also has two chapbooks, Mind Jewels and Interlude to the Daydream, a compact disc It Was Probably Intentional, and works in both the Beachland Ballroom Anthology and My Soul to His Spirit: Soulful Expressions From Black Daughters to Their Fathers.
N’Tare Ali Gault is a slam poet, an award winning actor, playwright and director of many theatrical productions. He’s the founder, editor, publisher and CEO of Njozi Magazine, an Urban Arts publication located in the Western New York area. Gault has been producing artistic events since 1994 and has worked with many artists of all disciplines in that time. Since 2000, Gault has been sponsoring the “Njozi Poetry Slam” series in the Western New York area.
