THE GRAPES OF WRATH
1940. 129min Not Rated Directed by JOHN FORD
This remarkable film version of Steinbeck's novel was nominated for seven Academy awards. A bounty hunter turned mine owner returns to find hisbrother missing, his partner dead, and a fellow worker in a state of panic. When a strangewoman shows up, the three set out on a journey with an unknown destination that leads toa final bizarre confrontation. "The Shooting is Nicholson's first important film, it's Hellman's masterpiece as a director, and a forgotten American classic." - LA Weekly

Endorsement deals signed by members of Gregg Juke &
Bruce Rounds has signed a deal with First Act to endorse their new Delia (semi-hollow body) guitar. Listen for the new axe at live shows and on future recordings by Gregg Juke & The Mighty No-Stars.
First Act is a well-known maker of student instruments, and is now moving into the professional/high-end guitar market. Bruce joins a number of well-known First Act endorsers, including David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Larry McCray, RustyAnderson (Paul McCartney), Henry and Jo Jo Garza (LosLonely Boys), Rick Neilsen of Cheap Trick, Paul Westerberg of The Replacements, Tommy Byrnes (BillyJoel), and many others.
Earlier this year, bassist Joel Thomas signed an agreement to endorse the uniquely elegant, hand-crafted, Barker Vertical Bass. The Barker Bass isa real eye-opener (it's a very unique and attractiveinstrument), but the live sound is incredible. Checkout Joel's Barker at live shows and listen for it on future recordings with Gregg Juke & The MightyNo-Stars.
Gregg Juke uses Lee Oskar harmonicas, and Vic Firth drumsticks (as a member of the Vic Firth EducationTeam).
Musicians that may be interested in either First Act guitars or the Barker Bass should see Bruce or Joel at an upcoming show; they'd be happy to discuss their new instruments and the companies that made them.
Gregg Juke & The Mighty No-Stars are an original Blues, Roots, Soul, and R&B act from Amherst, NewYork. Their new album, "Blues Power," is available on Blue Buffalo Records. Visit them on the World-Wide Web at www.MightyNoStars.com, or for more information contact Gregg or Susan Fischer at Nocturnal Productions--(716) 696-6758, Gregg@MightyNoStars.com, or MightyNoStars@roadrunner.com.
The group will be performing in concert on Monday,August 20th, from 7pm-9pm at Hennepin Park in Lewiston, N.Y., as part of the Blue Monday concert series. This is a free event and open to the public

FIGHTING BREAST CANCER ONE NOTE AT A TIME
(Buffalo, NY) For the last four years, Ida Goeckel, a local female musician and breast cancer survivor, has organized the annual Female Musicians Fighting Breast Cancer music benefit. The 5th Anniversary of this endeavor is once again set to raise funds for Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s Breast Care Center.
The event is to be held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at Club Infinity (8166 Main St., Williamsville, N.Y.) Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with five area bands, featuring female members, who will donate their talent and perform starting at 8:00 p.m.-12:30 a.m. This year we are privileged to have The Daughters of Creative Sound, a renowned WNY percussion ensemble, join us starting at 7:15 p.m. This year’s performers will be the finest the WNY area has to offer in the professional musical entertainment. They are the duo of Gretchen Schultz and Doug Morgano, Nikki Hicks and the Soul Music Souljas, The Patti Parks Band, and headliner, About Face. Prizes generously donated by local and national merchants will be raffled off throughout the show. Pre-sale tickets will be available at Tickets.com, Tops Markets outlets, and Club Infinity. Tickets and door admission will be $10.00.
This unique fundraiser, sanctioned by the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation and Team Cure donates 100% of the proceeds to Roswell Park’s Breast Care Clinic and Resource Center located at Elm and Carlton St. in Buffalo, N.Y. The mission of this benefit is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of breast cancer patients. The center provides patients with resources, research information, and treatment options related to breast cancer. In 2003, the program expanded its efforts to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Statistics now indicate that 1 in 8 women will be effected by breast cancer at one point in their lives. A smaller number of men are at risk as well. It is also the second leading cause of death in US women. Many strides and advances have been made in both the early detection and subsequent treatment for breast cancer patients. Continued studies and Research, just within the last 10-12 years, have greatly reduced the risk of recurrence and have given thousands of women and men diagnosed with breast cancer new hope for a bright future.
With greater concentration on pinpointing its cause and developing a cure, perhaps the next generation will no longer needlessly have to be concerned about the risk of breast cancer. The entire community is invited to support this worthy cause. For further information contact the F.M.F.B.C. benefit founder and organizer, Ms. Goeckel, at fmfbc@aol.com and be sure to visit www.myspace.com/fmfbc .

Eric Starr - News
Eric has recently become an endorser of Bosphorus Cymbals. In his own words:
"Bosphorus's products are totally hand hammered and they have a depth, expression, color, and nuance that you cannot find in other cymbals."
---------
Eric is pleased to announce a special European concert event!
Eric's composition for tenor saxophone and string quartet entitled "The Stones of Carnac" will receive its European premier at The Lighthouse on November 9th, 2007 in The United Kingdom. Previously called The Poole Centre for the Arts, The Lighthouse is a 15,000 seat venue and the home to the world renowned Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Eric's "Carnac" will serve as the centerpiece in a "classical meets jazz" concert event. It will be performed by the Pavao String Quartet and saxophonist Iain Ballamy.
The Pavao quartet has performed for British royalty on many occasions and has worked with such diverse artists as Sir Paul McCartney, Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, and leading contemporary composers Anthony Payne, Arvo Pärt, and Gyorgy Kurtag. Often called the " fantastic Englishman," Iain Ballamy has performed with many leading lights in jazz including Gil Evans, Cedar Walton, Kenny Werner, and fellow Brits Django Bates and Bill Bruford.

Formed in 1990, this year sees Mach IV reunited, featuring Ric Stave on Bass/Keyboards, Michael McGuire on Vocals, Dan Vanderzyden on Drums and Garrett Lechowski on Guitar. You couldn’t go out on a weekend night in the early 1990's without finding these guys playing somewhere in Buffalo. Their credentials include performing in the 1992 Buffalo version of THE WHO’S TOMMY at the Pfeiffer Theatre. Additionally, the band/members have racked up a total of TEN Buffalo Music Awards over the years, including Michael McGuire in the Best Male Rock Vocalist Category (1997) and 7 TOP ROCK BAND awards. Performing tributes to Rush, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen and Genesis, this should be a night to remember. Opening will be Wunderland's good friends, Buffalo's own The Filter Kings. Tickets are $5 presale and $8 at the door.
