Huge August Artpark Schedule Features Kenny Loggins!
Two-time Grammy-winning Icon Headlines August 7 ‘Tuesday in the Park!’
(Lewiston, NY) Artpark’s August schedule of “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” free outdoor concerts can be summed up in one word: rocking. Among the final four performances of the venue’s wildly-popular series are appearances by Pat Benatar (August 14), Dickey Betts (August 21), a makeup date with Hootie & the Blowfish (Sunday, August 26) and the season finale with America (August 28), but it all begins in a big way with two-time Grammy Award-winning superstar Kenny Loggins on August 7. Like all of Artpark’s outdoor concerts, the event will include free hands-on art workshops for children and begin at 6:30pm. Serving as the opening act is Loggins’ son, Crosby.
The incredible career of the Washington-born singer/songwriter, which has spanned more than three chart-topping decades, began to take off when Loggins placed four songs on a Nitty Gritty Band LP in 1970, with one of the tracks – “House on Pooh Corner” – becoming a bonafide hit two years later when he re-recorded it with former Buffalo Springfield member Jim Messina. That same 1972 album, Sittin’ In, also birthed “Danny’s Song,” one of the duo’s biggest hits in their four years together, along with “Vahevala,” “My Music,” “Angry Eyes,” “Your Mama Don’t Dance” and “A Love Song.”
Loggins & Messina broke up in 1976, and Loggins went on to solo stardom with such million-selling albums as Celebrate Me Home, Nightwatch (which included the anthem "Whenever I Call You Friend"), and Keep the Fire, all in the cheerful, sensitive style he had displayed in Loggins & Messina. In 1980, Loggins was honored with a Grammy Award for “This Is It” in the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance category. His stellar songwriting was honored in 1979 with a Grammy award in the heralded Song of the Year category for “What A Fool Believes;” the Doobie Brothers classic he co-composed with longtime friend Michael McDonald.
Loggins, a father of five, later issued two more beloved children’s albums, Return to Pooh Corner (1994) and More Songs from Pooh Corner (2000), along with a Christmas album, December, that has become a contemporary holiday staple.
Along with 12 records exceeding platinum status, Loggins also became known as the king of the movie soundtrack song, scoring Top-10 hits with "I'm Alright" (from Caddyshack), "Danger Zone" (from Top Gun), and "Nobody's Fool" (from Caddyshack II), and the title track from the Academy Award-nominated film Footloose.
