Huge August Artpark Schedule Features Kenny Loggins!
Two-time Grammy-winning Icon Headlines August 7 ‘Tuesday in the Park!’
(Lewiston, NY) Artpark’s August schedule of “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” free outdoor concerts can be summed up in one word: rocking. Among the final four performances of the venue’s wildly-popular series are appearances by Pat Benatar (August 14), Dickey Betts (August 21), a makeup date with Hootie & the Blowfish (Sunday, August 26) and the season finale with America (August 28), but it all begins in a big way with two-time Grammy Award-winning superstar Kenny Loggins on August 7. Like all of Artpark’s outdoor concerts, the event will include free hands-on art workshops for children and begin at 6:30pm. Serving as the opening act is Loggins’ son, Crosby.
The incredible career of the Washington-born singer/songwriter, which has spanned more than three chart-topping decades, began to take off when Loggins placed four songs on a Nitty Gritty Band LP in 1970, with one of the tracks – “House on Pooh Corner” – becoming a bonafide hit two years later when he re-recorded it with former Buffalo Springfield member Jim Messina. That same 1972 album, Sittin’ In, also birthed “Danny’s Song,” one of the duo’s biggest hits in their four years together, along with “Vahevala,” “My Music,” “Angry Eyes,” “Your Mama Don’t Dance” and “A Love Song.”
Loggins & Messina broke up in 1976, and Loggins went on to solo stardom with such million-selling albums as Celebrate Me Home, Nightwatch (which included the anthem "Whenever I Call You Friend"), and Keep the Fire, all in the cheerful, sensitive style he had displayed in Loggins & Messina. In 1980, Loggins was honored with a Grammy Award for “This Is It” in the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance category. His stellar songwriting was honored in 1979 with a Grammy award in the heralded Song of the Year category for “What A Fool Believes;” the Doobie Brothers classic he co-composed with longtime friend Michael McDonald.
Loggins, a father of five, later issued two more beloved children’s albums, Return to Pooh Corner (1994) and More Songs from Pooh Corner (2000), along with a Christmas album, December, that has become a contemporary holiday staple.
Along with 12 records exceeding platinum status, Loggins also became known as the king of the movie soundtrack song, scoring Top-10 hits with "I'm Alright" (from Caddyshack), "Danger Zone" (from Top Gun), and "Nobody's Fool" (from Caddyshack II), and the title track from the Academy Award-nominated film Footloose.
Artpark’s August 7 concert event with Kenny Loggins is sponsored by Frey Electric Construction Company.
The “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” concert series is also sponsored by Certo Brothers Distributing Company, Sevenson Environmental Services, Modern Corporations, Hard Rock Café – Niagara Falls (USA), S&S Lawn Services, Tim Horton’s, Pine Pharmacy, DiMino’s Lewiston Tops and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Children’s art activities are sponsored by the New York Power Authority.
Artpark’s Outdoor Amphitheater can be accessed via the Upper Park’s Portage Road entrance off of Center Street or through South Fourth Street nearest the Mainstage Theater.
Carry-ins (food and beverages) are prohibited at all of Artpark’s free concert events while on-site parking is $6.
For more information, access the Artpark website at www.artpark.net or call the Artpark Box Office at (716) 754-4375.

Artpark Series Plays Final ’07 “Moonlight Serenade!”
Glenn Miller Orchestra Concludes Big Band Series August 6!
(Lewiston, NY) Artpark’s Swing Series concludes for a second consecutive season with the “Greatest Band of the Greatest Generation” as the Glenn Miller Orchestra takes the stage at 2pm and 8pm on Monday, August 6. Under the baton of renowned trombonist Larry O’Brien, the ensemble will swing thru unforgettable tunes that have made Artpark’s Mainstage Theater dance floor a very popular summertime destination, including “In the Mood,” “String of Pearls,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Moonlight Serenade” and “Tuxedo Junction.”
The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930’s and '40’s. A matchless string of top-selling records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts, and the drawing power at theaters, hotels, and dance pavilions built and sustained Miller’s popularity before his tragic death in 1945.
Due to his popularity, the Miller Estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956 under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley, who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn's disappearance. Since then, other leaders have followed McKinley, including clarinetists Buddy DeFranco and Peanuts Huncko, tenor saxophonist Dick Gerhart, trombonists Buddy Morrow and Jimmy Henderson and current bandleader Larry O'Brien.
For ticket information, access the Artpark website at www.artpark.net, call the Artpark Box Office at (716) 754-4375 or visit www.tickets.com.

Artpark Reschedules Hootie & the Blowfish for FREE Show August 26!
Final Week of’07 Season Adds Two-Time Grammy Winners, School Supply Drive!
(Lewiston, NY) The final week of Artpark’s 2007 Summer Season just got a lot more interesting. Hootie & the Blowfish, the two-time Grammy-winning superstars who were obligated to postpone a July 3 appearance at Artpark – and 25 others – due to a staph infection in lead singer Darius Rucker’s left knee, have rescheduled the free performance at the Lewiston venue for Sunday, August 26, beginning at 6:30pm. In addition, Artpark and the Lewiston-Porter Central School District, are once again planning to collect school supplies on-site starting at 3pm, and subsequently distributing them to Niagara County schools in need. The effort is part of the Hootie & the Blowfish “Homegrown Tour,” an initiative established by the band in 2003 to accumulate supplies for economically-disadvantaged schools.
Because it was originally scheduled as part of the “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” concert series, all corresponding VIP sponsor tags for that program will be honored.
Sponsored by The Reid Group, the August 26 event with Hootie & the Blowfish precedes the final performance of Artpark’s 2007 Season – a “First Niagara Tuesday in the Park” free concert with America on August 28.
The infectious melodies of Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber and Jim “Soni” Sonefeld became worldwide sensations following the 1994 release of the band’s debut album, Cracked Rear View. With hits like “Only Wanna Be With You,” “Hold My Hand” and “Let Her Cry,” the record went on to sell over 16 million copies – the 12th best selling album in music business history – and helped the group capture Grammy Awards for “Best New Artist” and “Song of the Year” (for “Let Her Cry”). They also took home an MTV Video Music Award for “Best New Artist,” a Billboard Music Award for “Album of the Year,” a People's Choice Award for “Album of the Year” and a People's Choice Award for “Best Selling Artist,” a feat they duplicated in 1996.
The band remains a top draw nationwide and has since released five more albums for Atlantic: Fairweather Johnson, Musical Chairs, Scattered, Smothered & Covered, Hootie & the Blowfish and The Best of Hootie & the Blowfish as well as solo albums by Rucker and Bryan. The band left Atlantic by mutual agreement in 2004 and released 2005’s Looking For Lucky on their own Sneaky Long Records. LIVE in Charleston, the Homegrown Concert Event DVD/CD was released in August of 2006.
Opening the show is up-and-coming singer/songwriter Patrick Davis.

“Wednesdays on the Gorge” Welcomes Pure Prairie League!
Authors of “Amie,” “Let Me Love You Tonight” Hit Artpark July 25!
(Lewiston, NY) Pure Prairie League, the pioneering country-rockers best known by the smash hits “Amie” and “Let Me Love You Tonight,” are the featured performers of Artpark’s “Wednesdays on the Gorge” free outdoor concert series on July 25. Presented by HSBC Bank and HSBC Mortgage Corporation, all “Wednesdays on the Gorge” events begin at 6:30pm and feature an array of interactive artistic workshops for children. The opening act is Jason Bravo.
Pure Prairie League was formed in Columbus, Ohio in 1969 by singer/songwriter/guitarist Craig Fuller, singer/guitarist George Powell, bass player Jim Lanham, and drummer Tom McGrail, who gave the band its name, which was the name of a women's temperance group in the 1939 Errol Flynn movie Dodge City. The band released its self-titled debut album in March 1972 with a cover depicting a Western character named Luke, an illustration drawn by famed naturalist painter Norman Rockwell that had first appeared on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post in 1927. Luke would turn up on all the band's subsequent album covers, giving them a distinctive visual conception.
However, it was Pure Prairie League’s second album, Bustin’ Out, and the smash hit single “Amie” that jettisoned the band into full-fledged country-rock stars. By 1975, PPL had added leader/bassist Mike Reilly and its third record, Two Lane Highway, featured collaborations with country stars Emmylou Harris, Chet Atkins and Johnny Gimble, and provided the band with another Top-40 entry. Fourteen-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Vince Gill joined soon after, and the band enjoyed their biggest success with Firin' Up’s (1978) first single "Let Me Love You Tonight," which reached No. 7 on the Pop Charts and No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary Charts.
Although the band briefly dissolved in 1987 following the bankruptcy of its record label (Casablanca) and Gill’s departure, Fuller and Reilly began to fulfill their vision of PPL's return in the late 1990s, and in 2005 released its first new album in 24 years. Joining forces with them today are some of the top musicians available: Curtis Wright, a singer-songwriter-guitarist who has written and performed with many of today's top country acts, Rick Schell, co-founder of country music upstarts Pinmonkey, on drums and Fats Kaplin on pedal steel, fiddle, mandolin, washboard and accordion.
Artpark’s Outdoor Amphitheater can be accessed via the Upper Park’s Portage Road entrance off of Center Street or through South Fourth Street nearest the Mainstage Theater.
“Wednesdays on the Gorge” is also supported by Certo Brothers Distributing Company, Modern Corporation, Tim Horton’s, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission. Children’s art activities are sponsored by the New York Power Authority.

Singer/Songwriter Sensation Lucinda Williams Hits Artpark!
Three-Time Grammy-Winner Headlines July 18 “Wednesdays on the Gorge!”
(Lewiston, NY) Lucinda Williams, the final headliner act confirmed before Artpark officially announced its 2007 Summer Season, may be a prime example of saving the best for last. Williams, a three-time Grammy Award-winning indefinable singer/songwriter (her three Grammys have come in the categories of country, folk and rock) who has been tabbed “America’s best songwriter” by Time Magazine, is the featured act of the July 18 installment of Artpark’s “Wednesdays on the Gorge” free outdoor concert series, presented by HSBC Bank and HSBC Mortgage Corporation. All “Wednesdays on the Gorge” concerts begin at 6:30pm and feature free hands-on art activities for children.
Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to renowned poet Miller Williams and a talented pianist mother, Williams had a ferocious love for music and words at an early age. Her childhood travels took her from Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Santiago, Chile, and everywhere in between. Her itinerant nature can be found in her music as well, since she draws from a diverse array of artists who influenced her, including Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix.
The history of Williams’ now-storied career is fast becoming the stuff of music legend. After two early albums – Ramblin (1979) and Happy Woman Blues (1980) – Williams’ self-titled 1988 release is widely considered her breakthrough, featuring some of her best-known classics including the Grammy-winning “Passionate Kisses.” Sweet Old World was released in 1992 to continued acclaim and, six years later, came Car Wheels On A Gravel Road, which captured the 1998 Grammy for “Best Contemporary Folk Album” and is widely considered one of the most influential records of the last half-century.
In 2001, Williams took home her third Grammy Award, this time for “Best Female Rock Vocal Performance” for “Get Right With God” off of her sixth full-length record, Essence. Paring down the time between album releases even further, Williams returned in 2003 with World Without Tears, which became her highest-charting effort to date when it debuted in the Top 20. 2005 saw the release of two live recordings, Live @ the Fillmore and Live from Austin, TX. Williams is currently touring in support of her latest release, West, which hit stores this year and has already earned her a trio of 2007 American Music Award nominations (“Artist of the Year,” “Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year”).
Opening act Charlie Louvin is legendary country music star, part of the Louvin Brothers who dominated the early pop and country charts. Louvin, already a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, was recently inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.

LOBBY ART GALLERY EXHIBITIONS
The talent and imagination of visual artists return to the Lobby Gallery at the Genesee Center for the Arts. Housed in the lobby of the Stuart Steiner Theatre, the 2007-2008 LOBBY ART GALLERY SEASON debuts with GODDESS OF WHATEVER, process oriented paintings dealing with the subconscious manifestation of the female figure. This exhibit runs August 23 through September 28, 2007. Opening October 1 and running through November 25, 2007 will be the GCC STUDENT INVITATIONAL, a showcase of second year students’ artwork, selected and based on artistic excellence and dedication to their majors. SECRET ARTISTS OF GCC PART 2 will run from December 1, 2007 to January 25, 2008. Back by overwhelming demand, this exhibit, consisting of painting, drawing, sculpture and crafts, displays the works of GCC’s non-art faculty and staff. Open during normal college hours, the LOBBY ART GALLERY EXHIBITIONS are free to the public.
ROY ROGERS & THE DELTA RHYTHM KINGS
Back by popular demand, ROY ROGERS & THE DELTA RHYTHM KINGS will be returning to Genesee Community College to open the 2007-2008 Theatrical Season. One of the premiere slide guitarists performing today, Roy Rogers is a Grammy Award-nominated performer and producer. With eight solo recordings to his name, he has also been the producer for several Grammy-winning artists including John Lee Hooker and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Performing to Blues fans throughout the world, Roy Rogers is currently on tour with his group, The Delta Rhythm Kings, featuring Steve Ehrmann and Billy Lee Lewis. As quoted in Rolling Stone Magazine, “Rogers is an exceptionally articulate slide guitarist, either he's scorching Robert Johnson's ‘Ramblin’ Blues’ or taking a lovely, lyrical journey...or rockin’ it out. One of the rare guitar heroes who values feeling over flash.” Performance is scheduled for September 22, 2007 at 8:00PM.
ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, a play by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey.
Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., this intense drama debuted on Broadway in 1963 before being turned into a major motion picture, earning five Academy Awards® and making stars out of Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito. ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST centers around Randle P. McMurphy who, rather then go to prison, goes to an institution for the criminally insane where he befriends fellow patients in an effort to battle the establishment, led by Nurse Ratched. Exploring the injustice of treatment on “mentally ill” patients, this play remains today a powerful statement on humanity…sacrificing oneself for the advancement of mankind. Performances run October 11 through October 13, 2007 at 7:30PM and October 14, 2007 at 2:00PM.
Spring 2008 Performances at the Stuart Steiner Theatre include:

The Wicked Witch and the Big Bad Wolf are finally brought to trial for wreaking havoc and preventing people from living “happily ever after”. When Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, Dorothy and others take the stand to testify, it is up to the jury to decide the fate of the poor misunderstood villains. But there’s a twist…the verdict changes with each performance since the audience is the jury. Performances will run March 13 through March 14, 2008 at 7:30PM, March 15, 2008 at 2:00PM and 7:30PM and March 16, 2008 at 2:00PM. Beginning July 11, Wednesdays, Too, are on the Gorge!
Artpark’s Newest Free Outdoor Series Opens with Richie Havens!
(Lewiston, NY) On July 11 Richie Havens, the folk-rock legend who famously kicked off the original Woodstock in 1969, will serve as the inaugural headliner act of Artpark’s latest free outdoor concert series, “Wednesdays on the Gorge,” which is presented by HSBC Bank and HSBC Mortgage Corporation. All “Wednesdays on the Gorge” concerts begin at 6:30pm and feature free hands-on art activities for children.
Artpark’s Wednesday evening free outdoor concert series has undergone some significant changes for the 2007 Season. Making its debut last year, the then-titled “Artpark Wednesdays” provided a platform solely for the premier talent of Western New York and Southern Ontario. This summer, “Wednesdays on the Gorge” (July 11-August 22) will be Artpark’s second weekly showcase of national acts, while regional bands will receive considerably more public exposure as openers. Also new this year, an abundance of free family-oriented artistic endeavors – similar to those offered on Tuesdays at Artpark – will be made available at each Wednesday event this summer.
“HSBC Mortgage Corporation, USA is proud to continue our sponsorship of Artpark and its ‘Wednesdays on the Gorge’ summer concert series,” said HSBC Senior Vice President National Sales Manager David Gates. “It is a pleasure for us to continue our commitment to Artpark and the entire Lower Niagara River Region.”
Following Havens, the “Wednesdays on the Gorge” schedule features three-time Grammy-winner Lucinda Williams (July 18), country-rockers Pure Prairie League (July 25), blues sensation Kelley Hunt (August 1), a Cajun Festival (August 8) with C.J. Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band and Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas, a Celtic Fest (August 15) with the Saw Doctors, and the season finale with perennial Artpark favorites Switch (August 22).
Havens, who is gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music and noted for applying his distinctive style to the works of others (especially Bob Dylan and The Beatles), has grown quite accustomed to drawing very large audiences. His electrifying three hour performance in front of over a half million people at Woodstock in 1969 helped to jumpstart a legendary career and inspired a song rendition (“Freedom”) that became the anthem of a generation.
In 1970, Havens started his own record label, called Stormy Forest, and delivered Stonehenge. Later that year came Alarm Clock, which yielded the hit version of George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun,” and became Havens’ first album to reach Billboard’s Top-30. Stormy Forest went on to release four more of his records in the decade: The Great Blind Degree (1971), Live On Stage (1972), Portfolio (1973), and Mixed Bag II (1974).
Havens – a Brooklyn native – also branched out into acting during the 1970s. He was featured in the original 1972 stage presentation of The Who’s Tommy, and had the lead role in the 1974 film Catch My Soul, based on Shakespeare’s Othello. In 1977, he co-starred with Richard Pryor in Greased Lightning. He has also received soundtrack credits from a wide range of well-known TV shows and movies, from The Wonder Years in 1989 to the 2004 Tom Cruise blockbuster Collateral.
Increasingly, Havens has devoted his energies to educating young people about ecological issues. In the mid-1970s, he co-founded the Northwind Undersea Institute, an oceanographic children’s museum on City Island in the Bronx. That led to the creation of The Natural Guard, an organization that provides children with hands-on opportunities to study the land, water and air in their communities. Based in New Haven, Connecticut, the Natural Guard now has chapters across the Americas, and continues to grow.
The opening act on July 11 is Noa Bursie.
