Artpark Welcomes 2007 with Early Announcements

Discounts! Show featuring Music of Elton John & Tim Rice Headlines Theater Season! (Lewiston, NY) As Western New Yorkers turn their calendars over to 2007, the season’s Spring-like weather has led to an earlier-than-usual anticipation of summer. Today, Artpark assists in these midsummer musings with a preliminary announcement of the venue’s upcoming theater schedule, as well as the opportunity to purchase “early bird” discounted tickets to its blockbuster August musical production of Elton John & Tim Rice’s AIDA.

Onstage August 9-19, Elton John & Tim Rice’s AIDA is a modern theatrical take on Giuseppe Verdi’s enormously successful opera of the same name. A four-time Tony Award-winning pop-rock score masterfully brings to life the captivating musical tale of Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love. John and Rice’s brilliant adaptation, which marks the duo’s first collaboration since The Lion King, bursts with contemporary energy, elaborate staging, inventive choreography, multi-cultural casting and the critically-acclaimed soundtrack that also captured a 2000 Grammy Award for “Best Musical Show Album.”

A trio of ensembles will provide Artpark concertgoers with a trip down memory lane throughout the 2007 installment of the venue’s Big Band Series. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra opens Artpark’s swing season on June 25 as conductor and original band member Buddy Morrow leads one of the world’s most-recognized dance bands thru the hits that made them famous, including “Embraceable You,” On the Sunny Side of the Street” and “I’ll Never Smile Again.” The schedule’s midway point (July 23) features Junction West, whose electrifying, 1970s-infused arrangements – including songs from K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Earth, Wind & Fire, Average White Band and more – secured their Buffalo Music Hall of Fame induction in 1998. The series concludes with the illustrious Glenn Miller Orchestra for a second straight year as renowned conductor/trombonist Larry O’Brien guides the “Greatest Band of the Greatest Generation” thru timeless Miller classics such as “Tuxedo Junction,” “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade” and many, many more on August 6. All Artpark Big Band concerts take place at 2pm and 8pm. As always, Artpark’s front-of-house giant dance floor will be available during each performance.

All tickets purchased prior to March 1 for Artpark’s production of Elton John & Tim Rice’s AIDA will receive 20% “early bird” discounts. Artpark also offers special group rates with the purchase of 20 or more tickets to any Mainstage Theater performance.
