FREE JAZZ FRONTIERSMEN HAN BENNINK AND PETER BRÖTZMANN
FREE JAZZ FRONTIERSMEN HAN BENNINK AND PETER BRÖTZMANN TOUR comes to Buffalo . Oct. 4 Hallwalls Contemporary Art Center Buffalo, NY www.hallwalls.org
"The pairing of Peter Brötzmann and Han BenninkŠ pretty much guarantees successŠ Full of audacity and charm, these masters show thatŠ their art now has a refined sense of purpose, while maintaining the vigor, unpredictability, and fun after all these years." - Jay Collins, One Final Note
"It is quite astonishing they are still able to express themselves in such a relentless form. It seems that age isn't interfering one bit!" - Alexander Vogel, All About Jazz
The collaboration between Han Bennink and Peter Brötzmann began in 1968 through the Peter Brötzmann Octet, which yielded the LPs "Fuck de Boere" and "Machine Gun." Following the trio with pianist Fred van Hove, the two began a series of duo recordings, including "Ein Halber Hund Kann Nicht Pinkeln," "Schwartzwaldfahrt" which was recently re-released on CD, "3 Points And A Mountain" featuring pianist Misha Mengelberg, and the 1980 "Atsugi Concert." In 2004, they joined for a series of performances, culminating with their fifth duo LP "Still Quite Popular After All Those Years." But their collaborations have not been exclusively musical; in 2005 they joined to create a visual art exhibit: two buildings joined by a glass corridor in Brötzmann's hometown of Remscheid, Germany.
Percussionist Han Bennink is one of the central figures of modern jazz in Europe. Combining drama and wit with iconoclastic virtuosity and rhythmic imagination, Bennink's performances are a feast for the eyes as well as the ears. Over the years, he has collaborated with everyone from Eric Dolphy and Johnny Griffin to Myra Melford, Dave Douglas and Eugene Chadbourne. "Han Bennink explodes every drummer cliché, rambunctiously devouring free-jazz bombast and subtle trad swing." - Ken Micallef, Modern Drummer.
Peter Brötzmann has been one of Europe's most important free jazz musicians for some forty years. During this time he has crossed paths with Cecil Taylor, Ken Vandermark, Don Cherry, William Parker, Willem Breuker, Peter Kowald, Toshinori Kondo, and the rock group Last Exit. He is adept at the saxophone and clarinet, as well as the seldom-heard tárogató. "Brötzmann has always been iconoclastic in the best sense of the term, even though his roots lay in the big-toned tenor saxes of the likes of Hawkins and Webster." - Nic Jones, All About Jazz.

“Atmosphere Changers” ...in Downtown Buffalo Nov. 24th
Buffalo, N.Y. (September 28, 2006) — Gospel recording artist Nathan Salter and PrimoPR.com will present “Atmosphere Changers,” a day of Christian prayer and worship in downtown Buffalo, on Friday, November 24, 2006.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is meant to bring together people from different backgrounds in order to ask God to change the atmosphere in the Buffalo area from depressed and cynical to joyful and optimistic.
“Atmosphere Changers,” which starts at 1pm, will include music from Canadian recording artist Dan Macaulay. Salter will debut his live, multi-cultural, multi-instrument CD/DVD, “Breakthrough In His Presence,” recorded earlier this year in downtown Buffalo, at 7pm sharp.
“Everywhere I go, I hear negativity around here,” says Mark Weber, of PrimoPR.com, a Buffalo-area publicity firm. “Our collective spirit has been broken, and I believe a day of coming together in prayer and worship can and will help inspire people to be more positive about the area where we live as we ask God’s help in changing the atmosphere around here.”
“Atmosphere Changers” will take place at Greater Refuge Temple, located at 943 Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo. For more information, call Salter’s Christian Music at 716-882-1876 or visit www.salterschristianmusic.com.

The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame recognizes groups and individuals who have had a significant impact on the WNY music scene and/or achieved success in the music industry on a national and often an international scale. Inductees are chosen from nominees which are rated in several different categories. In addition to honoring outstanding music professionals from the Western New York area and preserving our rich musical heritage, the BMHF is committed to presenting music to people of all ages and is proud to be sponsoring an Early Childhood Music Program in the Buffalo Public Schools. Through a grant administered by the Hall of Fame, workshops are presented by "Strings 'n' Things", a children's musical performance group to pre-kindergarten children at Buffalo City schools. For many children this will be their first exposure to live musical performance. A new creative arts program for high school students in the City of Buffalo will soon be added.
You can learn more about the inductees and about the mission of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame by visiting http://www.buffalomusic.org/. We welcome input from the community while we add content to the new site and encourage past inductees to get in touch with us so that we can be sure to have the most up-to-date and accurate information possible. The Board of Directors of The BMHF also seeks new members that are interested in helping us grow. Parties interested in sponsorship opportunities, supporting membership or board membership should contact Katie Hildreth at 716-903-3644.

MICHAEL W. SMITH COMES TO BUFFALO AREA NOVEMBER 4TH
Buffalo, N.Y. (August 30, 2006) — He made People Magazine’s most beautiful people list. His friends include President George W. Bush and Bono. And now, singer-songwriter Michael W. Smith is coming to the Buffalo area on Saturday, November 4, 2006, for “an acoustic evening of inspiration and worship” at The Chapel at CrossPoint, 500 CrossPoint Parkway, in Getzville (a suburb north of Buffalo).
Michael W. Smith is one of contemporary Christian music’s most prolific and awarded artists. Since his career began in 1983, Smith has sold over 13 million CDs and won three GRAMMYs. "It's not uncommon for people from as far as five hours away from Buffalo to come to Christian concerts at The Chapel at CrossPoint," says Mark Weber, of PrimoPR.com, a regional Christian e-mail marketing company based in Buffalo.. "Smith's concert at The Chapel will start at 7pm, and a full house is expected, with people coming from all over Upstate New York and Southern Ontario to attend this concert."
Michael W. Smith is being brought to Buffalo by Kingdom Bound, sponsor of the annual Kingdom Bound Christian music festival, to be held next summer, August 5-8, 2007, at Six Flags Darien Lake amusement park and camping resort.

Known for such hits as “Place In This World,” “I Will Be Here For You,” and a re-make of the classic “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” Smith is releasing his 19th studio album, “Stand,” this fall.
